New Mom's Connect
Helping new mothers struggling with challenges of new parenthood.
New Mom's Connect (NMC) is a program that provides support, resources, and education about perinatal mental health disorders. The program includes a warmline run by volunteers, education to the community and support groups for new moms in the city and valley areas of Los Angeles. Through phone contact and home visits, trained volunteers refer clients to resources including support groups, counseling and when necessary, medical or psychiatric evaluations. In addition, the volunteers can help new mothers develop a family support system. Volunteers play an active role in community outreach and education.
Volunteer training includes information about postpartum depression, screening, phone intakes, clinical intervention skills, empathic listening and learning about community resources. On-going professional supervision is also provided to volunteers.
