The morning sickness, weight gain, those hours of labor are finally over, and now you are the proud mother of a beautiful baby. As everyone gathers around with wishes of mazal tov and expressions of joy, you somehow feel unhappy, on edge, empty, overwhelmed. This is frightening and confusing to you and your husband.
Feeling depressed after giving birth is more common than you think. In fact, about one in ten women experience an often undiagnosed condition called postpartum depression (PPD) after childbirth. PPD includes a wide range of emotional and physical reactions to childbirth and affects millions of women every year, worldwide.
The New Moms Connect (NMC) program is designed to help families who are experiencing symptoms associated with Postpartum Depression. This program provides education, resources and support services, through telephone calls, referrals and home visits, when needed.
New Moms Connect volunteers are available to assist families with:
- Developing a family support system
- Planning extra help at home
- Participation in a support group
- Obtaining spiritual support
- Referral for medical evaluation
- Referral for psychiatric evaluation
- Counseling
- Warmline for extra support for Moms, Dads, or family members
NMC also provides referrals to community resources, and to practitioners working directly with families specializing in PPD.
If you or someone you know is suffering silently with Postpartum Depression... Reach out, we're here for you.
