Rabbis Learn What Makes Marriage Work

Nearly 40 local rabbis gathered at a conference organized by the Rabbinical Council of California (RCC) where the results of the Aleinu Marital Satisfaction Survey were revealed and explored for the first time. Hosted at the Beverly Hilton in April, the workshop led by David Pelcovitz, Ph.D. focused on identifying the strengths of the Orthodox marriage as well as identifying key factors leading to divorce. Dr. David Pelcovitz, a professor of psychology and education at Yeshiva University focused on developing pastoral counseling skills towards enhancing and counseling marriages.

Dr. Pelcovitz has been researching and lecturing on family related topics for 25 years and did extensive work for this seminar, using results of the Aleinu survey, as well as professional and Torah sources to provide modern examples of conflict, and constructive solutions for miscommunication between spouses.

Dr. Pelcovitz explained to the rabbis the number of reoccurring problems that affect couples today, and how to positively address these issues through counseling. In approaching their difficulties as challenges that will eventually strengthen and improve the relationship, the couples can feel more confident and satisfied in their marriages, which is a key component to long-lasting success.
