YULA “Think It Through – Make a Choice” Parent Presentation
October 01, 2007

Aleinu offers its partner schools two annual training workshops under their school-based-services contract. While Aleinu counselors are available on a weekly basis in the schools for student access, parents are generally unaware of the daily struggles their children face. YULA Rabbanim mandated the Aleinu Parent Night for all matriculating students. Aleinu surveyed over 100 YULA students, asking them to reflect on their challenges with seminary/yeshiva rejection, substance use, peer issues, and religious struggles. The results were compiled in the “Think it Through – Make a Choice” Aleinu Substance Use Prevention workshop presented to the parents. Parents were alarmed by student comments such as: ““I want to be religious but I don’t feel a connection,” and “Don’t keep telling me with grades like that…you will never get into college!”
Following the presentation, YULA parents requested additional information and workshops from Aleinu – including the full “Think it Through – Make a Choice” presentation and “talking tips” for addressing these issues at home.
Aleinu will be returning to YULA Girls for a seminar on Facing College & Seminary Rejection, in December.
