Shabbat of Awareness, MIA – Is your Marriage MISSING IN ACTION?

For the past four years, Aleinu Family Resource Center, a program of Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles, has introduced community wide issues relevant to the Orthodox public through the Shabbat of Awareness annual campaign. This year, the Aleinu Halachic Advisory Board expressed significant concern regarding issues related to marital satisfaction and challenges faced by couples within the community.
Aleinu, in collaboration with the RCC (Rabbinic Counsel of California), created a survey for adults to take anonymously in order to discover:
• Quality of marital relationships
• Areas of difference experienced by men and women within the relationship
• Satisfaction level of men and women within the relationship
• Specific challenges, including a range of mild to severe problems, impacting the relationship
• Personal experiences when turning for help
The Survey was made available online, distributed to the RCC list, the Aleinu list, a list of 28 Shuls in New York, Hilly’s list, Yeshiva World.com, and was made accessible to Shuls that requested hard copies, including the Mikvahs. Nearly 1,500 survey results were gathered. All content was presented by Kehilla Rabbanim on May 15th, 2008.
