Keeping our children safe with the help of dedicated volunteers 

On Sunday, November 23rd Aleinu Family Resource Center honored its most dedicated volunteers at the Aleinu Evening of Appreciation. More than two hundred members of the Orthodox Jewish Community in Los Angeles gathered in the elegant home of Tzvi and Lila Elat where they enjoyed an elaborate dessert buffet as they united to support Child Safety. 

Aleinu means “it is our responsibility.” Safety KidTM is a program of the Aleinu Child Safety Institute under the supervision of Nettie Lerner, M.A.Ed., in which highly trained volunteers take responsibility to educate children to guard themselves against bullying, abuse, abduction and molestation. Volunteers presented with the Keter Rivka award for their community service and unerring commitment to Safety KidTM were Dena Bess, Tami Gottesman, Jackie Kest, Sara Mayberg, Adina Ryzman, Devorah Weiss, Shoshana Braude, Jill Kahn, Avigayil Klein, Edith Reichman, Aliza Solomon and Chani Weiss. 

The cappuccino bar and delicious array of decadent desserts were stunning in presentation and enjoyed by all. The content of the evening was one of great importance with Dr. Israel Rubenstein, Rabbi Yaakov Krause and Rabbi Berish Goldenberg speaking on behalf of the essential work that Aleinu Family Resource Center is doing daily. As Aleinu Family Resource Center Director, Debbie Fox, LCSW, explained in the video presentation, “No one wants to believe that sexual abuse exists in the Jewish Orthodox Community. I don’t want to believe it either. But everyday I come into my office and everyday the phone rings.” 

Who is there to answer the call of a frightened child, outraged parent, bewildered school principal or respected rabbi that has just been confided in? Who does the community turn to when these hear-wrenching stories are disclosed or uncovered? 

Aleinu is there each and every day.
