Domestic Violence

A woman called the hotline and disclosed, for the first time, her despair and shame at the long history of abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband. This time he had gone too far; he threw a dresser drawer at her in front of the children. Gently, the therapist worked with her, listening, encouraging, educating and providing tools … until she gained the confidence to share her tale of abuse with her family. She and her children have moved on; she is a successful teacher and has become a hotline volunteer.

“I have so much respect and admiration for her courage. She is an inspiration to me” the therapist shared. This client, empowered herself, created a new life, and chose to give back to others who face similar situations.
