Who does Aleinu’s Counseling Center serve?
Children, teens, adults, and seniors
Individuals, couples and families

How does a person become a client?
Anyone may call Aleinu for a confidential intake at 310-247-0534. Usually you will speak with a counselor that same day, and an intake appointment will be offered at the earliest agreed upon time.

Does someone have to be referred to Aleinu by another professional?
No. Although many people are referred by rabbis, physicians, teachers or other professionals, such a referral is not necessary. Just call the Aleinu intake line directly 310-247-0534.

How does Aleinu know which therapist someone should see?
Therapists are assigned based on several factors. Some of our staff specialize in working with children, families, or specific issues. Availability may also be a determinant.

What if the client doesn't have insurance?
When services are not covered by health insurance plans or a client doesn't have health insurance Aleinu charges a fee based on a sliding scale which is payable at the time of service.

Are client records confidential?
Counseling is held in strict confidence within the limits of California state law. Disclosure to other professionals is made only with the client’s written permission, or when required by state law.

What credentials do the counselors have?
All of Aleinu’s therapists hold graduate degrees in psychology or social work. The staff includes clinical psychologists, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers and a consulting psychiatrist. Many of the clinical staff hold further professional accreditation and licensure in their respective disciplines. Aleinu provides training opportunities for professionals who are completing their education, and these interns do provide services to some clients under close supervision.

Do Aleinu therapists receive continuing education?
Aleinu therapists participate in many mandatory hours of continuing education each year to maintain their licenses. Aleinu’s staff also regularly brings in consultants and in-service experiences to improve and maintain our clinical skills.

Does Aleinu prescribe medications?
When medications are needed for Aleinu counseling clients, counselors work closely with the client’s primary care physician or psychiatrist to ensure proper medication. Clients may be referred to the Jewish Family Service consulting psychiatrist.

How long does counseling take?
Sometimes things can be resolved in just a few sessions. More often it takes longer to effect lasting change. Counseling sessions ordinarily last 45 minutes and are usually held once a week.
o Each client’s treatment plan is individually based and the client and therapist work together to determine treatment goals and how long the client will remain in therapy.
