Following the Aleinu Child Safety Institute model of a coordinated effort between schools, parents and children working together to keep our children safe, our new Safety Kid on the Net cyber-education program is currently under construction.
With parents concerned about what their children are being exposed to and educators wondering how to compete with the exciting and dynamic world of the Internet, a 'digital divide' has been created between generations. Designed to bridge the gap, Safety Kid on the Net will educate children and their parents through a school-based curriculum about how to have safe experiences on the Internet while at school, at home, or with their friends. The program promotes ethical online behavior and cautions children against hidden dangers and exposure. Interactive online programming encourages open parent-child communication while simultaneously allowing parents and educators closer supervision. The focus is an approach to internet education that encourages schools, parents and children to work together and build confidence in the children to access the Internet in a safe way.
What did 1,000 Jewish kids in Los Angeles say about their Internet use?
In resposne to the astounding findings of our local research, Aleinu realized the urgent need to provide Los Angeles Jewish youth an opportunity to open a direct dialogue with their parents about their Internet activities. During workshops, parents gained information through an informative Internet safety video that featured true stories told by the children about their experiences online.
Predators exist in our physical environment. They also exist in our virtual environment - online. Let us work together to Keep our Children Safe on the Net!
